Iceland is yet again adding to its already impressive list of new artists with duo Halleluwah. Hailing from Reykjavik, Halleluwah is the collaborative project of singer Rakel Mjöll (previously a vocalist for Icelandic bands Útidúr and Sykur, and currently a member of Brighton based pop outfit Dream Wife) and producer Sölvi Blöndal (a former member of the famed Icelandic hip hop group Quarashi).
Halleluwah create a unique blend of nostalgic and contemporary electronic pop music, which is perfectly showcased in their exceptional debut single “Dior”. However they are by no means a “one hit wonder”. Their recently released self titled debut LP only cements the fact that Halleluwah have the potential and talent to become one of Iceland’s leading musical forces. Rakel Mjöll's idiosyncratic vocals compliment Sölvi Blöndal brilliantly precise and experimental production, in a musical match made in heaven.
From a country that produces so much outstanding musical talent, it takes a lot to stand out from the crowd. However Halleluwah have placed themselves at the very forefront of the impending Icelandic musical invasion.
