BL Festival Guide: Levitation France

We are back with another guide to yet another stellar line up. Levitation France, set in Angers, is back for another year, closing out the festival season on the 20th and 21st September. Though it’s at the end, it might just be the best line up of any festival this year, with a packed programme of some of the biggest and best names on psych and garage rock. What would you expect from a festival that partners with the great Levitation Texas? Let’s have a look at who’s on the bill.

High up on the bill this year is the new super group L’Epee, a collaboration between Anton Newcombe and The Liminanas’ Emmanuelle Seigner. After work materializing last year when The Liminanas were in Anton’s Berlin studio, the group are finally playing their first show together at Levitation France. Joining them are South London’s Fat White Family, who after years of causing havoc on the underground scene are finally owning the big stages around the world. The band’s latest record Serfs Up! has cemented their spot in the alternative mainstream. It’s a live show not to be missed. Continuing on the post punk theme, Denmark’s immaculate Iceage, who blend a raw twangy sound with lyrics best described as poetry, will be gracing Levitation.

After a huge set at Astral Festival, King Khan returns to touring with his collaboration with Sean Spits bringing his primal King Khan’s Louder Than Death to the Levitation stage. Bad Luck favourites Night Beats will be providing the pyschy r&b and pop nuggets from their latest record, and California’s sunshine soaked Mystic Braves will take you back to the Summer of Love. With a ferocious and unstoppable sound on their new record, Frankie and the Witch Fingers challenge the likes of Oh Sees on energy level. Another Bad Luck favourite and Astral Festival booking Mattiel continues her lengthy EU tour through to Levitation with her unmistakeable powerful vocals.

Tickets are available now for Levitation 2019 and can be bought on the festival’s website here.
