One Great Shot #1: The Pinheads
The Pinheads are from Wollongong, Australia, signed to Farmer & The Owl. Their latest release on Stolen Body Records in the UK is a stable of Aussie punk. It’s raw and honest, and their live show is on a whole new level. In the first of our series One Great Shot, where we take one image by a photographer and get the low down on it, is the above image of The Pinheads by Bad Luck editor Nathan McLaren-Stewart.
“I shot this of the Pinheads when they were playing in Bristol at The Old England. I originally wasn’t going to photograph the show, I was a few beers down, and to be honest I didn’t. I was filming bits, but with the low lighting and no flash it wasn't easy to get any decent images. That’s till the guitarist threw himself onto the ground whilst playing, and it was a shot I couldn’t miss. To substitute having no flash, I turned my iPhone flash on and held it next to the lens and took the shot. It’s probably the only decent image I got from that show… Hard to shoot with beer goggles!”
