Introducing... Rodrigo Sombra

Born in Ipiaú, Brazil, in 1986, Rodrigo Sombra is one of the most exciting young photographers coming out of a burgeoning Brazilian art scene. The city of Salvador, in which Sombra was raised, features heavily in his work as a vehicle for showcasing the diffusion of African diaspora across South America and Cuba. After a brief stint living in San Francisco during which time he gained further recognition, Sombra has returned to Rio to continue exploring the themes so evocatively expressed in his work to date. The use of colours, lights and shadows are what make Sombra's work stand out technically, but their in depth look at his surroundings is the factor that makes the photographer's work appear personal and insightful.
